Abbas spurns $6 million mansion, amid concern about backlash


Palestinian officers say a newly constructed $6 million West Financial institution mansion meant to be President Mahmoud Abbas’ official residence and guesthouse will not be serving its unique objective.

One official says Abbas, eighty two, determined to remain in his house, fearing public backlash if he moved into the four,seven hundred-sq.-meter (50,600-sq.-ft) residence at a time of financial hardship amongst Palestinians. The official spoke on situation of anonymity as a result of he was not approved to debate Abbas’ deliberations with reporters.

Visiting overseas dignitaries sometimes don’t remain in a single day in Ramallah, the seat of Abbas’ self-rule authorities.

Palestinian Tradition Minister Ehab Bseiso stated on Monday that a nationwide library can be constructed on the grounds of the mansion close to Ramallah. He says some rooms of the mansion may sooner or later be utilized by the library.
