Televangelist Joel Osteen says his Houston megachurch has “by no means” closed its doorways to individuals looking for shelter as Harvey swamps the town.
Osteen has confronted criticism for not opening his large Lakewood Church as a storm shelter. In a press release to ABC Information , Osteen says the church “will proceed to be a distribution middle for these in want” and is “ready to deal with individuals as soon as shelters attain capability.”
The sixteen,000-seat former area served as the house of the NBA’s Houston Rockets from 1975 to 2003.
Osteen’s remark stands in distinction to a church Fb publish and a since-deleted Instagram comment by Lakewood affiliate pastor John Grey, who stated flooded highways had made the church inaccessible. A spokeswoman for Osteen did not instantly return a request for remark Tuesday.
