Kentucky governor against removing Confederate symbols

Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin says he “completely” disagrees with eradicating Accomplice symbols and monuments from authorities property, calling it the “sanitization of historical past.”

Bevin informed WVHU radio host Tom Roten that eradicating such symbols can be “harmful” as a result of it will encourage individuals to “fake it did not occur.”

In 2015, when Bevin was the Republican nominee for governor, he stated it might be applicable for state officers to take away a statue of Jefferson Davis from the rotunda of the state’s Capitol. He stated that a part of the state’s historical past can be extra applicable for a museum, “not on authorities property.”

Bevin’s communications workplace didn’t instantly reply to a request for remark.
