Russia tries to allay Western fears about planned war games


The Russian army says main conflict video games set for subsequent month won’t threaten anybody.

The Zapad (West) 2017 maneuvers organized collectively by Belarus and Russia have raised NATO considerations. Some alliance members, together with the Baltic states and Poland, have criticized Moscow for a scarcity of transparency and questioned Moscow’s intentions. Russia-West relations have been badly strained over preventing in japanese Ukrainian.

Russia’s Deputy Protection Minister, Lt. Gen. Alexander Fomin, informed Tuesday’s briefing that Russia will invite overseas observers to the drills.

He stated the maneuvers in Belarus and Western Russia on Sept. 14-20 will contain 5,500 Russian and seven,200 Belarusian troops, about 70 plane, 250 tanks and 200 artillery techniques and 10 navy ships.

Fomin rejected what he described as Western “myths concerning the so-referred to as Russian menace.”
