Spain’s maritime rescue service says it has picked up 339 migrants from seven boats making an attempt to cross the Mediterranean Sea from Morocco.
The rescue service says the migrants have been taken by three maritime rescue ships to Spain’s southern city of Tarifa, situated throughout the Strait of Gibraltar from Morocco. The migrant boats have been intercepted individually early Wednesday.
The service stated one boat had 34 migrants from sub-Saharan African nations. It stated the remainder of the migrants have been from the Maghreb nations of northwest Africa.
Tens of hundreds of migrants from Africa try the perilous crossing to Europe in smugglers’ boats annually and hundreds drown alongside the best way.
